After a long, sweltering-hot summer, I’m so happy to welcome the ‘ber months. I’m looking forward to cooler temperatures, misty mornings, crisp woodland walks and snuggling up under a blanket with a book and a mug of coffee – and with that in mind, it’s time for my yearly round-up of the best scented candles for autumn.

I have a year-round obsession with scented candles, but there’s something particularly special about lighting them as the days grow shorter and the nights longer – in fact I tend to have one or another flickering away from the moment I wake up until I head back to bed again. Below, you’ll find my pick of the best, including some old favourites and some new discoveries for 2026. I’ve focused on the kind of scents that appeal to me at this time of year: smoky blends that conjure up crackling log fires, earthy aromas that remind me of autumn landscapes, comforting fragrances that are ideal for cosy nights at home… There are even a few eerie, atmospheric options for spooky season and Halloween. All come from independent makers or small businesses, and are hand-poured using natural wax rather than anything nasty; there are also several refillable options to help you cut down on waste.

Natural autumn styling with a dried wreath & pumpkins

When you think of autumn styling and Halloween decorations, you probably think of vibrant reds, oranges and golds. They look stunning, of course, but this year I’ve chosen to do something a little different and opt for shades of green, beige and off-white instead. It’s a softer, more muted and textural take on seasonal decor, and I think it works beautifully in my calm, minimalist home . My inspiration came from the autumn wreath that I made during a press trip to Tudor Farmhouse Hotel in the Forest of Dean last week, when Jo Thompson of Wye Valley Flowers hosted a workshop using naturally dried flowers and foliage from her own farm. Room reveal: our rustic-minimalist dining room
